Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
